Ambient temperature UT couplants can
be selected on the basis of performance, environmental impact,
temperature range and cost.
ULTRAGEL II, SONOTRACE, and ECHOGEL are water-based couplants
featuring high surface wetting capability to maintain the best
possible contact on dirty or oily surfaces. Ferrous corrosion
inhibition factors for each are the highest in their performance
class. ULTRAGEL II, SONOTRACE, and ECHOGEL meet nuclear
specifications for Halogens, Sulfur and low melting point metals,
have been in use for over twenty-five years and have established the
standard by which other UT couplants are judged.
SONOGLIDE, SOUNDSAFE, SOUNDCLEAR, UT-30, and UT-X are
environmentally benign couplants that have low skin irritation
potential because they do not contain harsh surfactants, dyes or
fragrances and meet nuclear power specifications for Halogens,
Sulfur and low melting point metals. These couplants contain an
environmentally benign ferrous corrosion inhibition system for
steel. When ferrous corrosion is the most important criteria,
Ultragel II, Sonotrace or Echogel provide superior corrosion
inhibition.
VISCOSITY: Viscosity, or thickness, of couplants is noted by
a grade (GR) following the name of the couplant. The lower the
number, the lower the viscosity.

Sonotech manufactures a wide variety of
couplants for flaw detection, thickness gaging, flow metering, and
acoustic emission testing at extreme temperatures. Some of the
products in this category have proven themselves for over 25 years.
We have listed below the primary features of each of our High
Temperature Couplants.
NO PERFLUOROCARBONS -- When overheated, perfluorocarbons (such as
PTFE) release gases that cause "polymer plume fever", a flu-like
illness that can last for 24 hours or more. Sonotech couplants do
not contain perfluorocarbons.
VISCOSITY: Viscosity, or thickness, of couplants is noted by
a grade (GR) following the name of the couplant. The lower the
number, the lower the viscosity.

Sonotech offers a line of UT water additives
formulated to enhance the properties of water as an ultrasonic
coupling medium. These products are designed to make water coupled
UT testing techniques (such as immersion tanks, bubblers, and
squirters) faster, easier, and more reliable.

Sonotech Specialty UT Couplants have unique
properties for unusual or difficult inspections.
Gel 3000 Contains fluorescent tracer to assure complete
application and removal.
High Z High acoustic impedance couplant for use on curved,
rough, pitted or heavily corroded surfaces.
Humex Humectant and glycerine-free couplant developed for
nuclear reactor testing.
Shear Gel For use in normal incidence shear wave
applications.
Thermasonic Use where rapid wetting and slow drying are
required.
VISCOSITY: Viscosity, or thickness, of couplants is noted
by a grade (GR) following the name of the couplant. The lower the
number, the lower the viscosity.

UT-X POWDER
and UT-X/FE POWDER are cost effective concentrates that are
mixed with water at the inspection site. The compact and lightweight
packets are easy to transport to distant sites or store for
unanticipated shortages as emergency couplant.
UT-X POWDER and UT-X/FE POWDER are available in pre-measured
1-gallon and 5-gallon packets. UT-X POWDER can be custom mixed to
the viscosity required by the test procedure. UT-X POWDER
incorporates a mild corrosion inhibitor, a preservative, a viscosity
building polymer and ease of mixing in a pre-measured packet.
